What? Leiden University believes it is important that staff and students feel welcome and at home in the academic community. Only then can everyone work to their full capacity and get the best out of themselves. The question is: Are we on the right path? And how can we together build an academic community in which diversity and inclusiveness are safeguarded? This year’s symposium has two keynote speakers: Dr Jan Terlouw (former politician and writer) and Dr Barbara Love (Assistant Professor Emeritus, University of Massachusetts). They will address the question of why it is so important to create an inclusive academic community, and what such a community should look like.

‘Inspire the Students’: LUC Student and Alumni Event coming up!

On this Saturday afternoon, alumni and students will meet at LUC to share their experiences about internships, master programmes, and the working field. This networking event will be closed with a borrel to connect all students and alumni present! To give the students a general idea of what you can do with an LUC degree, a keynote panel of alumni will introduce a variety of roads our alumni have taken after their life in The Hague. However, both alumni and students have more specific questions and ideas when it comes to the things that interest them mostly. Therefore, we will provide for two break-out slots catering your academic and professional questions! This way you can attend the break-out sessions discussing your top two themes and have room to discuss the remaining theme during the drink. The Faculty of Governance and Global Affairs Career Services will have a stand near Coasters so you can directly inquire about career/internship opportunities.

12.30 – 13.00 Registration, First floor
13.00 – 13.30 Welcome back by David Zetland!
13.30 – 14.30 Keynote panel: Paul Hanke (Internships), Tawnni Castaño de la Cuesta (Masters) and Kristina Stonjekova (Careers)
14.30 – 15.30 Break-out session I (A selected panel will represent and discuss one of the three themes in each of the break-out sessions)
15.30 – 15.45 Coffee break
15.45 – 16.45 Break-out session II

Important Message: Treasurer of Fortuna

Dear Members of Fortuna,
We would like to ask your attention for the following announcement:
“Dear Fortunians,
Due to unforeseen circumstances, I will be taking a leave of absence for an underdetermined period of time. This also means that unfortunately I will not be able to serve as Treasurer on the Board of Fortuna this year. I will remain in touch with the current board to ensure a smooth transition, and I trust they will find a suitable candidate to fill in my position.
I would also like to thank the current board, the RAs, and all those in the LUC community who have been so understanding of my situation.
Wishing you a pleasant remainder of Block 1,
Armina Sinani”
We are very saddened by the leave of Armina as treasurer of the Fortuna Board. With this we lose a valuable member of the board. Armina’s leave of absence is effective immediately therefore her office hours will no longer take place.
Resulting from the leave of absence of Armina, the Fortuna Board is looking for a new treasurer to take on the role until the end of this academic year. If you are curious or interested, feel free to send an e-mail to generalboardmember@fortuna-luc.nl, walk-in during one of our office hours, or approach any of the current Fortuna Board members before 23.59h on Thursday September 6 to apply. We are confident that we will find a suitable replacement in a timely matter and we hope to hear from you soon.
Kind regards,
Rebecca on behalf of the Fortuna Board
Chair of Fortuna
