Lots of LUC-students are characterised by their creativity and their artistic qualities and the Beyond Arts committee was created at the beginning of the first year to activate, stimulate and facilitate these students. Beyond Arts symbolizes two different goals: organizing artistic events and going ‘beyond’ arts, i.e. making money with our art that we can give to charities.
“Arts education not only enhances students’ understanding of the world around them, but it also broadens their perspective on traditional academics. The arts give us the creativity to express ourselves, while challenging our intellect. The arts integrate life and learning for all students and are integral in the development of the whole person.” – Dr. Terry Bergeson
We do want to improve the artistic events at LUC and we want to improve the world around us. Beyond Arts is a committee that organizes and participates in events that aid and support Arts Education. Every event that is organized, from any path within the arts, will be in support of arts-education charities or an events topic-related charity. An audience member at any event buys a ticket with the knowledge that the money spent for the ticket will (partly) go to a charity related to the topic of the event. This is something we always will stress, otherwise we would not go ‘beyond’ arts.
We divided our committee in five different sub-committees and all of them have their own Head (or Heads). We believe that it is more effective to divide our focuses between the different board members, so everyone can focus on their own subject and can spend all their time to create nice events for these subjects. The different sub-committees are ‘Literary Arts’, ‘Performing Arts’, ‘Fine Arts’, ‘Art of Music’ and ‘Art of Dance’ and the chair will combine the ideas of the different sub-committees, supervising the different events and keeping contact with different institutions, like ACKU, the art institution of the The Hague University of Applied Science.
