LUCMUN (Leiden University College Model United Nations) is LUC’s own MUN Association. Aside from our most integral activities, which are training delegations and taking them to various international conferences across Europe, we also organise MUN simulations within LUC, and other special events such as the LUCrisis.
What is MUN?
MUN conferences simulate meetings of the United Nations. Incorporating its various bodies, such as the Security Council, the Human Rights Council, and various General Assemblies, they offer a possibility of debate on a diverse variety of contemporary issues. Thus, MUN is extracurricular activity that is especially valuable for and related to our programme at LUC. Delegates represent a country and its policies/ideas on the debated topics. Aside from the debating part, they also offer a very fun way of meeting students from all over the world, and making friends while partying at all the socials that are organised.
What does LUCMUN do?
LUCMUN attends several conferences each year. We train our delegation for 1-2 months, offering workshops on public speaking skills, how to write resolutions, and how to play the political games that come along with MUNs. Also, we will get to know each other through more informal meetings so that our time at the conference will be even more special!
LUCMUN will attend the following conferences in this academic year:
- HamMUN (Hamburg, DE): December 4-7
- LIMUN (London, UK): February 27 – March 1
- MUNOTH (The Hague, NL): tba (probably somewhere beginning of April)
- EUROMUN (Maastricht, NL): April 29 – May 3
